The magic of meaningful mentoring
It took me awhile to discover my music.
Your music is your talents or gifts.
I have had the great fortune to have had many mentors who have influenced me over the 40 years of my working life. It is not so much what they have said, rather it is what I have said to myself when I listened to them that has challenged me; and when I took action on what I heard, it has changed my life for the better.
I also had the great fortune to work alongside a truly great sporting mentor Terry Jenner who became my best friend for 20 years. TJ passed away on 25th May 2011. His passing has left a great void in my life. His philosophy however that mentoring is about “enhancing the gift” lives on through my work.

My mentoring is about being that friend to you for a time.
It may be for a few hours, or a day. Sometimes it is for a few hours or days regularly over the course of a year.
It’s about uncovering your ‘music’ and 'enhancing your gifts’.
Often my role is to help you to do what you know you should do that you are not currently doing.
As you take action, our work together often results in a breathtaking surprise. I have no way of knowing when this will happen, it just does when you are ready. You discover something profound in this moment of moments about your talents and you begin to live your music in such profound ways that what seems like magic happens in your personal and business life.
Obviously I can’t be this kind of friend to many people, just a few each year.
My clients tell me that my gifts are to

so clearly I value No BS. I do appreciate too that my candor is not for everyone!

#3. Create a vision for change. I coach you to create and deliver a compelling story people will buy into and engage with.
#4. Communicate the vision. I teach you advanced communication techniques and presentation skills that stir hearts, shift thinking, and inspire people to step up and embrace your vision.
#5. Remove obstacles. I mentor you in the art and practice of appreciation and accountability conversations that lead to the removal of fear of change and other obstacles that cause change programs to fail.
#6. Create short term wins. I co-create with you unique success milestones and how to celebrate their achievement in ways that maintain momentum.
#7. Build on the change. I co-design with you momentum magnets and meaningful measurements that embed the change/s into every day transactions and interactions.
#8. Anchor the changes in corporate culture. I help you adapt your performance leadership style and systemization so that desired change/s become integral to all aspects of your workplace.
Most change programs fail
Most change programs fail in my experience for 13 major reasons:
The people charged with making the change happen don’t really believe in it and therefore their work is half-hearted at best
The change program is designed to take too long and the status quo wins
The expectations are unrealistic
People are not genuinely appreciated when they do well
People are not held to account when they fail to perform as they agreed they would
Measurements of progress are poor or non-existent
Desired change is actually problem solving which usually means a return to the status quo rather than real innovation
Intentions, emotions, and thinking doesn’t change and therefore any behaviour change that may happen doesn’t last
There isn’t a real shared-view about why the change is crucial/essential
There isn’t a real shared-view on how the change will happen and who will do what, and when
Leaders don’t understand all change is personal first, relationships second, and organisations third
Leaders don’t personally change
Broken relationships remain broken
The presence of any of the above reasons will most likely mean your change initiative will see you go backwards.
